About the Project

The ‘Accounts of the Conflict’ is a digital archive of personal accounts of the conflict, based in Ulster University and designed to provide for the long-term storage of stories related to ‘the Troubles’ in, and about, Northern Ireland. Accounts of the Conflict is funded from the European Union’s PEACE lll programme, managed by the Special EU Programmes Body. The archive contains collections of personal accounts, the vast majority of which have been collected by a wide range of community-based organisations and projects across Northern Ireland and beyond. The diagram explains the relationship between the story collecting projects and the Accounts of the Conflict Archive. The project is run by staff at INCORE (International Conflict Research Institute).

This Web site will allow users to search for information on past story-telling projects and on stories collected during the current round of Peace III funding. Where permissions can be obtained the stories will be available via the Web site. The Web site will also have a facility for future story-telling projects (2015 and beyond) to deposit digital versions with the Accounts of the Conflict archive.

The Accounts of the Conflict Web site was made public on 17 November 2014 to coincide with the international conference organised by INCORE. However, personal accounts are still being submitted by story-telling groups and these stories will be added to the site in the near future. In addition, some technical aspects of the site have to undergo further development. Comments about the content or working of the site can be sent to the CAIN Director.

There is an Accounts of the Conflict information leaflet which is available to download, (January 2014), [PDF; 1205KB].
