An account given as part of the Journeys Out project run by INCORE. A series of video interviews were recorded with 13 participants. The resulting videos were divided into five segments, each dealing with the themes of: Personal Journey; Dealing with the past; Challenges; Impact; and Lessons.. A transcript of each interview segment is also provided on the Web site.
"Conor Maskey - joined Intercomm in December 2000 as Training and Development co-ordinator. He is presently the co-ordinator of Intercomm’s Peace Building Programme and has responsibility for organising programme events, discussions and seminars for local people and community workers with the aim of providing a link with the ‘bigger picture’ of the peace process. In 1996 he was part of a three-person Irish delegation that went to the UN Headquarters in New York for a world youth conference at which he was chairperson. Conor has also taken part in ‘peace building’ and ‘leadership development’ programmes in Harvard University, Massachusetts (1998) and Columbia University, New York (2004). He has been a member of Sinn Fein for the last 4 years. Last year, he was co-opted to Belfast City Council, representing the Oldpark Ward of North Belfast." (from INCORE website)

Description |
Established in 1993, INCORE (International Conflict Research Institute) is a joint project of the United Nations University and the University of Ulster. Combining research, education and comparative analysis, INCORE addresses the causes and consequences of conflict in Northern Ireland and internationally and promotes conflict resolution management strategies. It aims to influence policymakers and practitioners involved in peace, conflict and reconciliation issues while enhancing the nature of international conflict research. INCORE is located within the Faculty of Social Sciences at the University of Ulster and co-ordinates the varied peace and conflict-related activity across the University – encompassing work in disciplines such as politics, policy studies, history, international affairs, sociology, geography, architecture, communications and social work, as well as in peace and conflict studies. |
