James gives an account of his family history on his father's side. His grandfather was a Protestant who supported Home Rule and was opposed to the First World War. James' father joined the Irish Republican Army (IRA) and fought in the War of Independence (1919-1921) and sided with De Valera during the Civil War (1922-1923). His father then experience problems obtaining employment in Belfast due to his political convictions.
